Kenta Igarashi was born in 2002 to a Japanese father and an Ukrainian mother, in the city of Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. When he was five years old, he and his mother moved to Kyiv, Ukraine.
He began his saxophone and piano studies at the age of seven, as well as the participation in a choir.
In 2013, Kenta entered the Kyiv Specialized Secondary Music boarding school named after M. Lysenko (KSSMS) and studied in the class of Honored Artist of Ukraine, Assistant Professor Yuriy V. Vasylevych in the specialities of saxophone and clarinet. Afterwards, he entered the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music. And currently, he studies as a special scholarship student at the Tokyo College of Music in the class of Shiro Hatae.
Kenta has won numerous awards (more than 30 international competitions), including the first prize at the European Saxophone Forum 2019 (Wroclaw, Poland), Yamaha Music Gulf Scholarship 2020, the first prize, the Japan Prime Minister Award and the special grand prize in the 37th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition 2022, and the fifth prize at the 8th International Adolphe Sax Competition 2023 (Dinant, Belgium).
He has been a Yanagisawa artist since 2022. He has also received scholarship from the Munetsugu Angel Fund/Japan Federation of Musicians Scholarship for Emerging Performers 2023.
He has played in the Kyiv Saxophone Quartet, and has performed as a soloist with the best orchestras of Ukraine. He has also performed in so many places around the world including China, Greece, Poland, United Arab Emirates and in many cities of Ukraine and Japan.
