Jeroen Vanbever

Jeroen Vanbever (°1990) is a young, driven, Belgian saxophonist. After his saxophone
studies with Rudy Haemers at the Stedelijk Conservatorium in Mechelen, he
continued his music education at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven in Nadine Bal’s
class. Here he achieved his Master in Music option Saxophone in 2013 (Magna Cum
Laude).
Since
2008 he has followed Master Classes with Rik Vaneyghen, Cecil Busar, Gaetano Di
Bacco, Gerard McChrystal, Alain Crepin, Joseph Wytko and Rudy Haemers. He also
participated in the 12th and 13th “Habanera International
Academy in Poitiers, France, where he took classes with Jean-Denis Michat,
Julien Petit, Masataka Hirano, Sylvain Malezieux, Fabrizio Mancuso and Gilles
Tressos. In 2013 Jeroen took lessons with Claude Delangle, Vincen Lê Quang,
Damien Royonnais, Masataka Hirano, Arno Bornkamp, Christian Wirth and Vincent
David at the European University of Saxophone in Gap, Frankrijk. He also
travelled to America for the inaugural American Saxophone Academy at Eastman
School of Music in Rochester, where his teachers were Chien-Kwan Lin, Tim
McAllister, Carrie Koffman, Kenneth Tse and Otis Murphy. Finally Jeroen also
had private lessons with Kyle Horch.
As
a freelance saxophonist, he has been invited several times to play with
“Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen” and “Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra”. With the
latter he played, inter alia, on the Festival Musiq’3 and participated on a
tour in Germany.
In
January 2012, Jeroen founded the saxophone quartet Mise en Sax, together with
three saxophone students of the Lemmensinstituut. With this quartet, he reached
the finale of the “Youth ‘n’ Classic” competition by Klarafestival and “Sonic
Angel” in March 2012. He also plays baritone saxophone in the saxophone quartet
The Circling Saxes and participates in theatre productions.
Next
to his activities as a musician and teacher, Jeroen started jazz studies with
Frank Vaganée at LUCA School of Arts Campus Lemmensinstituut. In jazz he
participated in master classes with Ben Sluijs, Fabrice Alleman, Daniel
Stokart, Richard Rousselet, Ewout Pierreux, Jos Machtel and Dree Peremans.
Jeroen
plays Yanagisawa saxophones.
